There are many ways of answering the question of why celebrities earn more money than scientists. The fact that a lot of money can be made by things that scale (like movies or sports on TV), a person’s ability to attract millions of fans to their product, how easily replaceable someone’s skill set is, for example.
To look at it from the standpoint of the body, mind and soul spectrum, we first have to break it down to the basics.
First of All, We Are the Boss
To start our analysis, the first thing that must be clear is that we, the public, are the ultimate consumers of what both celebrities and scientists provide. Therefore, we the public are the ones that, in a sense, pay their wages.
Now, let’s turn to what these people provide.
The Problems that Are Being Solved
Scientists solve the problem of figuring out our physical world. They give us the technology and medical development that improve our way of life. But once we get the benefit of their work it becomes a part of our life. We just accept it and move on.
Celebrities solve the issue of boredom. In elevating their craft to the level of art, whether it be acting, sports or simply the art of looking good, celebrities provide us with an unending amount of material that we can consume to feed our mind with material to keep it thinking. Thus, our minds avoid getting bored.
What It Is Really Being Provided
If we stop to take a closer look, what both celebrities and scientists provide us is material to think of. The difference is that scientific material has us thinking for a relatively short amount of time. After all, there is only so much researching we laymen consumers can do to figure out how a particular scientist’s discovery will affect our lives. Then we move on.
The work celebrities do, on the other hand, gives us plenty more to think about. Take a movie for example. We can spend time watching that, then we can dissect it with our friends, or follow the actor’s life thru gossip. Then we can follow that actor and eventually we’ll get yet another movie to do the same with. A similar thing happens with sports. We can analyze and critique and over analyze any given game to our hearts content.
Why Celebrities Earn More
So, from a body, mind and soul perspective, the answer to the conundrum of why celebrities make more money than scientists although they provide us with seemingly less important things in life and which allegedly, require a much lower level of knowledge than scientific advances can be summed to this:
It is ultimately our mind that consumes what these professionals provide. But celebrities give our mind much more of what it needs to avoid its most terrible demise. That is, boredom.
We pay more to the person that relieves our boredom the most. Today, those are the celebrities.
As Mr. Freddy Mercury so eloquently put it, “Boredom is the biggest disease in the world, darling.”
